Improving Gender Measurement of Digital Access, Skills and Use in Bihar, India

Goal

The study aims to examine digital access and use vary between households and individuals in Bihar based on membership in an SHG, as well as the impact of SHG membership on women’s individual digital journeys.

Target

13,000 participants (6,500 SHG members and 6,500 non-SHG members)

Approach

  • Evaluate the differences in digital access and use between households and individuals in Bihar, with a focus on comparing SHG members to non-members
  • Examine how membership in SHGs influences women’s access to digital tools, connectivity, and the development of their digital skills, tracking their individual digital journeys

Impact

  • Creating a learning model for other states and countries aiming to bridge the digital gender gap
  • Provide critical insights towards developing gender-intentional digital programmes and other pathways towards bridging the digital gender gap
